Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our Board was informed on Thursday, March 5, 2020, that OSSTF (Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation), the union representing our Designated Early Childhood Educators, our Student Support Persons and our Attendance Counsellors, will enhance job action beginning today, Monday, March 9, 2020.
OSSTF job action will now include the following:
- Members will not provide anything other than a mark and learning skills on any formal or interim report card. In non-credit courses (eg. special education K courses), a single comment will be provided;
- Members will not organize/attend group/department/job class meetings at any time;
- Members will not attend Position of Added Responsibility meetings at any time;
- Members will not attend central (board) committee meetings/councils with the exception of joint union/employer meetings;
- Members will not deliver/organize PD/training seminars or present at PD seminars;
- Members will not participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs);
- Members will not participate in any aspect of School or Board Improvement Plans;
- Members will not participate in curriculum or course writing;
- Members will not update and post on school/board-related websites (excludes individual teacher/class curriculum website);
- Members will not accept new teacher-in-charge, or acting VP positions, or provide coverage for absent administrators/managers;
- Members will not assist with "admin" tasks including photocopying and distribution of school/board documents (with the exception of course selection materials);
- Members will not file EQAO/OSSLT results;
- Members will not provide equipment maintenance unless scheduled through work orders;
- Members will not contact outside contractors for service not directly related to student learning (eg. waste management, blue boxes, equipment repair);
- Members will not assume responsibility for administration or distribution of keys;
- Members will not provide co-op worksite visits outside of regular instruction day;
- Members will not engage in any work related email or phone call outside of the instructional day or paid work day. Communication with parents outside of the regular instruction day about urgent student matters will be at the professional judgement of the member;
- Members will not engage, beyond regular work hours, in community liaison work that is part of the job description unless paid overtime;
- Members will not keep employer-owned electronic devices turned on beyond the end of work day unless paid overtime;
- Members will not supervise students sent to the office for discipline;
- Members will not prepare or make bank deposits, pick up/deliver mail outside of regular work hours;
- Members will not provide setup/teardown for community functions unless paid;
- Members will not be available for emergency call-ins unless paid;
- Members will not be available to open or close schools outside regular scheduled shift unless paid overtime;
- Members will not provide assistance with catering services and orders outside the school day or regular scheduled shift, unless paid overtime.

Our Board was informed yesterday that our elementary and secondary teachers represented by OECTA (Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association) and our Designated Early Childhood Educators, our Student Support Persons and our Attendance Counsellors represented by OSSTF (Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation) will be participating in a provincial one-day walkout with two other major education unions on Friday, February 21, 2020.
All Elementary schools, Senior Elementary schools, Secondary schools and Alternative Education programs will be closed to students on Friday, February 21.
Parents and Guardians are asked to arrange alternate childcare arrangements during this walkout. Clients of before and after school daycares should contact their daycare provider for information regarding hours of operation and services that may be provided during this one-day strike.

OECTA, the union representing our Elementary, Secondary and Occasional Teachers, and OSSTF, the union representing our Designated Early Childhood Educators, Student Support Persons and Attendance Counsellors, will hold a one-day strike on Tuesday, February 4th, 2020.
All Elementary schools, Senior Elementary schools, Secondary schools and Alternative Education programs are CLOSED to students.
OECTA and OSSTF have notified us that they will be setting up information pickets outside of Pope John Paul II School, Bishop E.Q. Jennings School, St. Bernard School and the James Street Government Building between 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Parents are asked to arrange alternate childcare arrangements during this one-day strike. Clients of before and after school daycares should contact their daycare provider for information regarding hours of operation and services that may be provided during this one-day strike.
School closures are necessary, as we cannot provide a safe and equitable learning environment for all students. The Board respects the Union’s right to strike and remains hopeful that a negotiated settlement will occur between the Provincial Bargaining Parties.

Our Board was informed this afternoon that on Monday, January 20, 2020 O.S.S.T.F., the union representing our Designated Early Childhood Educators, Student Support Persons and Attendance Counsellors will add four new sanctions to the sanctions currently in place:
- Members will not perform any on-calls;
- Members will not take on any additional work/responsibilities as a result of an absent member of the bargaining unit;
- Members will not verify or find replacements for staff absences; and
- Members will not perform the work of another bargaining unit, including any paid or unpaid work, or any activity that has been struck, even if directed to do so by the employer.
The Board respects the right to strike and remains hopeful this strike may be avoided by a negotiated settlement between the Provincial bargaining parties. This afternoon the Union (O.S.S.T.F.) representing our Designated Early Childhood Educators, our Student Support Persons and our Attendance Counsellors served a Notice of Strike Action outlining a full withdrawal of services in the form of a one-day walkout on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. This action is in addition to the sanctions currently in place.

Our Board has been informed that on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, OSSTF, the union representing our Designated Early Childhood Educators, our Student Support Persons and our Attendance Counsellors will begin job action. Students Support Persons, Designated Early Childhood Educators and Attendance Counsellors have served notice in accordance with: s. 34 (3) of the School Boards' Collective Bargaining Act, of a strike in respect to central bargaining.
OSSTF members in all bargaining units will be participating in the following sanctions:
- Information picket lines are expected periodically at our sites. Picket lines are not expected to inhibit the passage of people and vehicles onto our Board properties. Participation in sanctions will generate a withdrawal of services within schools during school hours.
- Limited withdrawal of services include:
- Participate in EQAO preparation or testing;
- Complete Ministry of Education Reports —Data will be shared with the Board but reports will not be completed or submitted;
- Participate in Board PA (Ministry or Board topics), other than participating in self-directed Professional Activity. PA days organized by OSSTF/FEESO may continue as usual;
- Participate in unpaid staff meetings outside the scheduled school day;
- Provide comments on any secondary provincial report cards;
- Perform the work of another bargaining unit, even if directed by administration.
